CNN is heavily promoting Thursday night’s premiere of its new seven-part documentary series, “The Eighties,” with everything from vintage video games and VR content to Biz Markie performing “Just A Friend” for a room full of the network’s anchors, executives and fans.
CNN hosted an ’80s trivia night earlier this week, where Brooke Baldwin, Poppy Harlow, Robin Meade and Kamau Bell and were among the guests who watched the hip-hop legend mix the biggest hits of the decade. Harlow is eight-plus months pregnant but that didn’t stop her from singing along.
“The Eighties” kicks off Thursday night at 9 p.m. ET/PT with a two-hour special on television from the era. The series will also touch on Ronald Reagan, the AIDS crisis, the Cold War, Wall Street corruption, the tech boom and the evolving music scene.
“Replay The Eighties” is an event occurring Thursday at New York City’s Grand Central Station, allowing fans to play popular 1980s arcade games for free. CNN VR also celebrated by releasing its recreation of the newsroom on the day the space shuttle Challenger exploded in 1986. CNN has also taped a 1980s-themed “Quiz Show” that will air in the near future.
